Animation Portfolio Requirements
Students applying for admission into the Animation major must submit a portfolio of 10-15 samples of artwork that may include: life drawings, illustrations, cartoons, comic strips, comic books, sketches, paintings and other visual materials. Please do not send traced pictures or copies of other people’s work.
Animation faculty will review your portfolio and are hoping to gain insight into how you approach creative work and to assess your personal style and artistic interests. Please include a few drawings that demonstrate character personality or that reveal character motivation (a storytelling drawing), as these are especially useful in assessing your skill as an animator. If you have created animation you may include one or two short samples in Quicktime or AVI format.
Please choose the best 10-15 drawings that show your range and ability as an artist, but do not send us the originals, only copies. Acceptable portfolio formats are xerox or color copies, scanned digital printouts, CDs or DVDs. Make sure that your CDs and/or DVDs are compatible with Macintosh and PC platforms. Test them in your own computers before sending them!
Many applicants provide us with both a print version in a binder and a backup version on CD. Images on CD will preferably be in JPG format, but TIFF, PNG and PSD files are also accepted. Be sure to clearly mark your portfolio with your name (exactly as you entered it on your application) and your Common Application ID.
