Lauren Newman

Brand for Success

Class of 2018 Marketing graduate Lauren Newman is kick-starting her professional career at The Craftsman Agency as an Associate Marketing Manager following a year-long internship. A native of the Bay Area, Lauren will be tasked with helping to manage the agency’s digital marketing strategies for their tech and entertainment clients.

Named LMU’s 2018 Program Scholar of the Year for Marketing, Lauren believes the skills she picked up while a student in the prestigious M-School Institute of Marketing will help her flourish in her new role.

“The M-School was incredibly helpful and unique because it provided me with hands-on experiences with real companies in real situations, such as with Electronic Arts and Tom’s Shoes,” Lauren said. “It’s really cool to see what you’re learning applied in real-life.”

Highly selective and in-demand among LMU’s marketing majors, the M-School aims to transform the way in which students learn about and are immersed in the evolving world of advertising and branding, including through collaboration with industry leaders and companies.

Originally drawn to the bluff for its innovative programs and ideal LA location, Lauren says LMU really is committed to developing the whole person.

“I feel like I’m leaving LMU with a broader view of the world and that my knowledge has deepened,” Lauren said. “Overall I just feel much more well-rounded and that I have made a lot of lasting connections.”

Lauren paired her marketing studies with a psychology minor, saying that the exploration of human behavior has always fascinated her. She feels that the subject matter is very complimentary to the art of marketing and feels it will certainly benefit her down the line.

Additionally, Lauren and was an active presence on and off campus, participating in Greek life and interning for the host of the popular reality television show “Famously Single.”

“I’m a bit obsessed with reality television and the science behind it,” Lauren said. “I’m glad I got the chance to explore that world, though I don’t think it’s ultimately for me.”

Looking to the future, Lauren says she is an avid runner and marathoner, and hopes to one-day translate her marketing know-how into the health and wellness industry.

As for what advice she has for future Lions?

“Really make sure you fall in love with your major,” Lauren said. “If you don’t, explore other options early on – because if you don’t love what you’re studying, you probably won’t end up loving what you’re doing.”
