Auditions

Auditioning for the Music Major or Minor

Auditions are required for admission to the Music Major and Minor and serve as scholarship consideration for any qualified applicant. We require all auditions to be recorded and uploaded to the Applicant Status Portal as a portfolio. To submit a portfolio, applicants must first submit their applications to LMU. Each of the two required audition pieces should be uploaded as a separate video or audio file. Applicants will have the option to schedule a secondary in-person audition or an online “Meet and Greet. The Audition Form and recordings must be submitted by the deadlines listed below to schedule an in-person audition round or a “Meet and Greet.” If you are a current LMU student, please contact Tashi Cardinali Bateman at Tashi.Cardinali@lmu.edu for submission information.

PLEASE NOTE that the audition guidelines listed below apply to all Music major and minor applicants, regardless of their intended concentration. The first two years of the major are spent studying classical performance in their chosen instrument and laying a firm foundation in Theory, Aural Skills, Music History, etc. Then concentrations are declared as a student enters their junior year. Thus, all students enter the program as general performance majors.

Ensembles: The audition guidelines listed on this page for those applying to the Music major and minor only. For those interested in pursuing music without formally joining the department as a major or minor, our many vocal and instrumental ensembles are open to all! Click below to view descriptions and audition processes for each ensemble.
