Events and Programs

As a family of students, faculty, staff, and alumni, we seek to educate ourselves and the greater LMU community, in the history and culture of the Latina/o peoples while serving and advocating for Latina/os both in and outside of LMU’s campus. Enjoy learning about just some of LMU’s events and programs intended to further develop relationships, spiritual wellness, and advancement among the Latina/o community.

Familia Events

Dia de Reconocimiento - A bilingual graduation ceremony that highlights the achievement and success of LMU's Latino/a graduates in the Latino spirit and tradition.

Latino Overnight - Every spring, the Office of Undergraduate Admission hosts accepted students on campus for two informative and fun filled days. Prospective students attend classes with current LMU students, meet faculty, staff, and alumni, and make personal connections with the Latino/a community.

Martes En Familia - A monthly dinner that brings together students, faculty and staff for meaningful interactions. Through active participation in Martes en Familia students will learn and contribute to the LMU community.‌

Leadership and Career Development Programs

LAA Student-Alumni Networking Mixer - This free event invites students to meet and mingle with Latino/a LMU alumni and corporate leaders of Southern California.

Café con Leche - Conversations with Faculty - Have you wondered what books your faculty like to read for fun? Have you wondered what hobbies they enjoy? This program takes place 2-3 times a semester and it gives students an opportunity to learn and get to know their faculty better. Faculty will engage students in informal conversations about their journey, research, and passions.

E‌IS Power Trips - These exciting field trips engage students in the off-campus Latino/a community, taking advantage of the incredible opportunities Los Angeles offers- from Dia de los Muertos celebrations to world-class museums, cultural sites, and entertainment venues.‌

Annual Events and Programs Promoting the Service of Faith

Latino Retreat - Held in the fall, this event offers an opportunity for Spanish-speaking students to come together to explore their faith in an off-campus weekend experience. The retreat is designed to help students foster an active prayer life, deepen their Gospel values, and strengthen their relationship with God and the community. The retreat is bilingual in English and Spanish, and freely incorporates images and language familiar in Latino/a Catholic devotion.

O‌ur Lady of Guadalupe Celebration - In December we celebrate and honor Our Lady of Guadalupe with a mass, reenactment, performances and lunch. Students' families are invited to participate.

L‌a Posada - The LMU community is invited to partake in our traditions with food, a slide show and songs relating to this pastoral Nativity event. Students in particular are encouraged to take a break from finals week.

Cesar Chavez Interfaith Prayer Service - We celebrate the life and leadership of Cesar Chavez in an effort to raise campus-wide awareness about issues within our society. The event also recognizes the workers here at LMU who do so much for us every day.
