Important LMU Roommate Search Information

As a reminder, the housing application is available to committed LMU Lions and should be submitted by May 19, the housing guarantee deadline. In the application, you will be asked to rank your residence hall preferences, select a meal plan, view renters’ insurance options, and provide information about your lifestyle and interests for roommate pairing.

To make the process easier, here are three ways you can match with a roommate based on the answers you provide on the “Profile Question” page of the application:

  • Using your profile questions, LMU Student Housing will pair you automatically. Here’s how to choose this option:

    1. Select “Create a Group” on the “Roommate Groups” page of the application
    2. Enter your group name.
    3. Choose “Change/Create Group.” This will create a roommate group with you as its only member. Student Housing will complete your group for you and send you your assignment and roommate information in July.

Note: If you choose this option, you do not need to add anyone to your group.

  • You can search potential roommates by their Profile Question answers based on your answers from the “Profile Question” page. Here’s how to choose this option. From the Roommate Groups page:

    1. Follow the steps above, then…
    2. Click the “Search Roommates by Profile” link on the bottom right of the page.
    3. Answer the drop-down question at the very top to initiate your search.
    4. Your search results will show how closely other students’ profile answers match yours.
    5. Click the “View Profile” button to see how the matched students answered the profile questions.
    6. If you find a profile that matches your preferences, you can either message that person or invite them to join your roommate group.
    7. Students invited to join a group must accept the invitation in the housing application to complete the group’s formation.
    8. You will receive a notification email via your Lion Mail account when you have been invited to join a roommate group.
  • If you know another student committed to attending LMU, you can intentionally pair with them directly by using their roommate pairing number. Each student must have started a housing application to match with a specific person. Here are the steps to take advantage of this option:

    1. Choose which roommate will create the roommate group. Only one person should create a roommate group in the Housing application; the other person must start their housing application.
    2. Exchange the roommate pairing numbers you received from the “Roommate Groups” page.
    3. The following steps are for the roommate who created the group:
      • Choose “Search for Roommate by Details” on the “Roommate Groups” page.
      • Enter the roommate pairing number and verify that the number matches the paired roommate’s screen name.
      • If the username matches the person you were expecting, select the “Invite to Group” button to invite them to your roommate group.
    4. The invited roommate will receive an invitation via their Lion Mail account. They must accept the invitation to be added to your shared group.
