Nexus FAQ

Nexus Program Frequently Asked Questions

  • Nexus, meaning “connection” or “link,” is a conditional program. It connects a select group of first-year students, that have demonstrated potential, to LMU resources and opportunities. This program requires all participating students to attend LMU full-time. All successful course work in this program counts toward an LMU degree.

Enrollment as a traditional candidate is guaranteed if the student earns a minimum 2.5 GPA in their first semester. Nexus students must enroll in a full-time program of studies (minimum of 12 credit hours).

Students who do not meet the minimum requirements after the fall semester will continue in the Nexus program for the remainder of the academic year and will transition to traditional candidate status the following year if they earn a 2.5 GPA.

  • There will be no difference. Nexus students will take appropriate courses in their major and from the University's core curriculum, as all first-year students do. They will be in class with and treated the same as regularly admitted students and will be encouraged to engage immediately with the Academic Resource Center upon the beginning of each semester to help ensure their success.

  • Yes. Nexus students may take up to 17 credits of LMU courses in each of the fall and spring semesters. All courses and grades earned are recorded on the student's LMU transcript and count toward the LMU undergraduate degree requirements, and will be factored into their GPA.

  • Nexus students cannot participate in LMU/NCAA intercollegiate athletic teams and are not eligible for any type of financial aid (including merit-based and need-based aid). They can join other campus activities and organizations, with the same privileges as other admitted students.

  • Yes. If you are eligible for tuition remission here at LMU, your remission will cover your Nexus tuition. For information about tuition remission, click here.

  • Certain degree programs and majors at LMU are not available for Nexus participants, including all majors in the LMU School of Film and Television and LMU Frank R. Seaver College of Science and Engineering. Other programs may have academic requirements that a student granted Nexus does not satisfy.

  • Nexus students are not eligible for any form of federal, state or institutional aid. When Nexus students meet the 2.5 GPA requirement and are admitted to LMU as full-time degree status, they will then become eligible for federal and state aid. (Note: students and their families should be sure to file the FAFSA by its deadline each year to guarantee eligibility.)

  • LMU does not offer merit aid to students in the Nexus program.

  • Students who enroll in the Nexus program are subject to all University rules, policies and regulations, including those related to academic integrity and honesty.

  • Nexus students confirm their enrollment by paying their Tuition Deposit. To do so, log into your Application Status page using the credentials provided when you applied. Click the “Yes, I’m ready to accept admission” link and follow the onscreen prompts. Your seat in the Nexus program is guaranteed if we receive your Tuition Deposit by the deadline indicated in your admission letter.

  • Yes, if you submit your Tuition Deposit by the deadline and meet all Student Housing office timelines and policies.

  • Nexus students pay the same flat undergraduate tuition and fees as regularly admitted first year students. Tuition is refunded in accordance with the University refund schedule upon cancellation or withdrawal.
