Bilingual Education

Teacher teaching in a classThe Center for Undergraduate Teacher Preparation provides matriculation-to-graduation advising and other academic and professional support to undergraduate students preparing for careers in K-12 teaching. Students completing a program supported by the Center will achieve both a major in their chosen discipline, as well as fulfill the requirements for a preliminary teaching credential within their time at LMU. Students complete their major program requirements through their respective college/school while simultaneously completing the credential coursework and requirements through the School of Education.

Students pursuing a Multiple Subjects or Single Subject Preliminary teaching credential are able to add a Bilingual Authorization to their teaching credential in either Spanish or Mandarin. This authorization allows students to teach content in either Spanish or Mandarin. Students must choose a subject area in which to teach when choosing to add this authorization to the Single Subject Preliminary teaching credential. LMU offers Single Subject Preliminary teaching credentials in subject areas such as Art, Biology, Chemistry, English, Math, Social Science, and Spanish. Any major on campus may earn this authorization so long as the student is also pursuing a Multiple Subjects Preliminary or Single Subject Preliminary teaching credential.
