Elementary Education
The Center for Undergraduate Teacher Preparation provides matriculation-to-graduation advising and other academic and professional support to undergraduate students preparing for careers in K-12 teaching. Students completing a program supported by the Center will achieve both a major in their chosen discipline, as well as fulfill the requirements for a preliminary teaching credential within their time at LMU. Students complete their major program requirements through their respective college/school while simultaneously completing the credential coursework and requirements through the School of Education.
Students pursuing a Multiple Subjects Preliminary teaching credential are able to teach in elementary school (grades K-6). LMU offers a Liberal Studies major specifically designed for students interested in elementary education. Should a student prefer to pursue a different major, he or she can do so and still earn a Multiple Subjects Preliminary teaching credential.
