African American Student Services Leadership Awards — Each year, the Office of Black Student Services honors outstanding students for their leadership and service to the campus and local community.
Kente Graduation — The Kente graduation is a Rite of Passage that commemorates the academic and personal achievements of our students of African descent and marks the transition from college to adult life.
Power Trips — These empowering field trips engage students in the greater Black community of Los Angeles, taking advantage of the incredible opportunities around us—from a day of worship at one of L.A.’s predominantly Black mega-churches to visiting world-class museums and entertainment venues.
Imani Faith Retreat — Co-hosted by Campus Ministry and OBSS, the Imani “Faith” Retreat focuses on the cultural and spiritual needs and practices of students. The retreat provides an opportunity for students to grow and learn from one another as they deepen their own faith.
Black History Month — In an effort to raise campus-wide awareness of Black History and the Black community at LMU, OBSS celebrates the month of February with a variety of events and activities. Past celebrations have included discussion forums, musical performances, poetry readings, an African marketplace and more.
