Megan Pepi

Accounting for Success

Class of 2018 Accounting graduate Megan Pepi is starting her next chapter at professional services firm Ernst & Young. The San Diego, California native will work in the company’s audit division and feels confident that her LMU business courses and prior internship experience have prepared her for the role.

“I think I am leaving LMU and heading into the world with a better understanding of how to use my unique gifts to serve the community and in my new career,” Megan said.

Named the College of Business Administration’s Scholar of the Year, Pepi first interned with the global company last summer and says she got to take much of what she’d learned in the classroom and put it to good use on the job.

“I got to work for three different Ernst & Young clients in three different industries and being able to take what I’d learned in the classroom and apply it in the real world was very much to my benefit,” Megan said, who was offered a position at the internship’s end, before she began her senior year.

Originally drawn to LMU for its engaged student community and dedicated faculty, Megan says she was inspired by the university’s mission and values – not to mention the endless opportunities available to students.

“LMU’s values really stood out to me,” Megan said. “I liked the idea of using one’s own talents to help others.”

Additionally, Megan said she appreciates LMU’s commitment to creating a global experience and even had the opportunity to study abroad through its “Business in Asia” program, which she calls the highlight of her college career.

“It was an amazing experience,” Megan said. “I went to Asia through the University Honors program and had the opportunity to take a class and design a PhD dissertation, as well as apply for an Asian business grant.” LMU currently offers over 60 study abroad opportunities, with 36 percent of students taking advantage of this opportunity.

In addition to her rigorous coursework, Megan was involved in a number of campus pursuits, including Delta Zeta sorority, Accounting Society, Campus Ministry, and was an Admission Tour Guide and Accounting tutor.

Looking to the future, Megan hopes to one day transition into business consulting and get her feet wet in the start-up world. But in the meantime, she’ll be prepping for her new job and studying for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam in September.

As for what advice Megan has for future Lions?

“LMU provides so many opportunities – be open to the possibilities,” Megan said. “If you find something that you are passionate about, really invest yourself in it. It is most meaningful when you pursue something you really enjoy.”
