Tyler Emery: Rising entrepreneur on track to master's degree

Tyler Emery

Recent graduate Tyler Emery is already his own boss after launching his own digital marketing firm through LMU's world-renowned entrepreneurship program.

The Hermosa Beach, Calif. native kick-started Reign Media in his New Venture Creation Class, which challenges entrepreneurship students to pursue their own business ventures.

Branded as "Silicon Beach's Creative Agency," Reign Media's services include social media management, web design and development, search engine optimization, search engine marketing and content production. And with a client roster that includes Fiji Water, Morgan's Jewelers, Skin Kare Industries, and Zico Coconut Water, Tyler is off to a good start.

"LMU's entrepreneurship department really cares about the well being and success of its students," Tyler said. "If it wasn't for my professors pushing me, all the rigorous case studies and projects, I wouldn't be the person I am today."

But Reign Media is not Tyler's only venture; he has several projects in the works, including an app he has been developing this semester for autistic children that aims to behaviorally and educationally modify their social behavior in order to maximize their opportunities for socialization.

He also continues to tinker with an idea he came up with in his Intro to Entrepreneurship class, an innovative tip jar with LED lights at the bottom that spin, attracting the customer's eye and reminding them to tip.

"It doubles tips wherever we test it," Tyler said. "I like that it helps contribute to the working class and gives them that well-deserved raise they're looking for."

Tyler transferred to LMU in his junior year and says that he was drawn to Loyola for its strong entrepreneurship program and close proximity to the burgeoning tech-hub of Silicon Beach, where opportunities abound.

He adds that he found the transition to the bluff mid-college seamless and welcoming.

"The people at LMU are very genuine and have a real sense of purpose," Tyler said. "It was very easy to find a supportive community of like-minded individuals."

Looking ahead, Tyler will begin his Master's of Science in Marketing degree at the USC Marshall School of Business this summer, while continuing to pursue his entrepreneurial endeavors.

"Over the next ten years, I hope to add significant social and economic value to the world through my entrepreneurship pursuits," Tyler said. "And making Forbes' '30 under 30' list wouldn't hurt."
